Hello! I am Negar, the owner of PotteryBeauties. I was born and raised in Iran. Later on, I lived in Italy long enough to call it my second home before moving to Belgium.
I come from an engineering background with a big heart for art. I used to do photography as an student job. Later on, in my free time I did several projects with water color and Acrylic.
Right before the start of the pandemic in 2020, I started following my first pottery course which was stopped soon after due to the lockdowns. During the pandemic, I could not follow any course. I decided to learn by myself/youtube/books/friends.
Since January 2022 I’ve followed pottery lessens at Atelier Aimee with Olivier Van De Wiele and later with Caroline Kesteleyn followed by some workshops with Sybille Segers, Bert Claeys and Erik Landon.
I established PotteryBeauties in July 2020 as a diary of my hand made pots. I have documented my progress during the last years. I explored different techniques and methods and found myself in between colors and lines. I love drawing on my pots. I draw or carve the happy moments or happy places I’ve been through so I can look back and smile at them.
Since April 2023, I teach Sgraffito Technique in different Ateliers across Belgium.
Academic Studies:
- Islamic Art and Architecture -Oxford University, Fall 2023
In Fall 2023, I completed a short course on Islamic Art and Architecture at Oxford University, under supervision of Dr Peter Morgan. My focus was to explore Islamic art in Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Arabesque and Illuminated manuscripts. I concluded the course with an assay on ‘Impact of Baghdadi potters on Chinese Blue-and-white porcelain‘.
- Illustration – Academie voor Beeldende Kunst 2023-2024
With guidance of Stijn Felix, I discover different methods and techniques in illustration, drawing, composition and how to depict a narrative.
